Easter Triduum

The Easter Triduum is the period of times that traces the final days of the life of Jesus Christ – His Passion, Death, and Resurrection.

It begins on Holy Thursday evening with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, where the Church re-lives the institution of the Eucharist and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Last Supper, as well as the institution of the priesthood, which took place the evening before Jesus was crucified.

On Good Friday, the day of the crucifixion, the Church enters into the tomb with Christ, observing a day of fasting and abstinence as it solemnly remembers His sacrifice upon the Cross, particularly at the 3:00pm liturgy, the hour that Jesus breathed his last breath.

The fasting is ended with the joy of the Easter Vigil, held on Holy Saturday. It is the pinnacle of the Church’s calendar: the day of the Resurrection. Many catechumens will be baptised or formally enter into the Church at this time, an added joy for the Church.

The celebrations continue through to Sunday when many will attend Easter Masses to joyfully participate in the glory of the Resurrection.

Jesus Christ has risen. Humanity has been invited into that same trajectory through death to life.

We wish all of our community a special Holy Week.
