Farewell Bishop Randazzo

Archbishop Anthony Randazzo will leave the Diocese next week to take up his appointment as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts in Rome, ending more than six years of shepherding the Diocese of Broken Bay.

The past six years have been defined by strong pastoral consultation, new pastoral initiatives, a surge in vocations and a renewed focus on Catholic education within the Diocese.

While we share in the joy of Archbishop Anthony’s appointment to the Holy See, we also experience the loss of our shepherd.

We thank him for his many years of generous service and leadership in our Diocese, guiding the faithful through the COVID-19 pandemic and out the other side, while also ensuring a strong future for Broken Bay across the life of the Church for the years to come.

On Thursday, 25th May, Archbishop Anthony’s time as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese will come to an end.

On Friday, 26th May, the College of Consultors will meet to elect a Diocesan Administrator who will oversee the day-to-day running of the Diocese until a new Bishop is appointed.

While it is hoped the vacancy will not be extensive, we pray the Holy Father will appoint a good and faithful shepherd to guide the Diocese over the next few years.

May God bless Archbishop Anthony in his new ministry. Our prayers will go with him as he serves the Church as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts as faithfully and diligently as he has served the People of God in Broken Bay.
